What are 15 tools and equipment used on a farm ?

Posted by admin

Could you please give me 5 functions for any of those 15 as well? Thank You !

1- Rotavator
2- Cultivator
3- Cultipacker
4- Chisel plow
5- Plough- a tool used in farming for initial cultivation of soil in preparation for sowing seed or planting.
6- Harrow- Is an implement for breaking up and smoothing out the surface of the soil.
7- Subsoiler- A subsoiler or mole plough is a tractor mounted implement used to loosen and break up soil at depths below the level of a traditional disk harrow or rototiller.
8- Tractor
9- Manure Spreader
10- Hay Rake
11- Milking machine
12- Mower
13- Bulk Tank- In dairy farming a bulk milk cooling tank is a large storage tank for cooling and holding milk at a cold temperature until it can be picked up by a milk hauler.
14- Swather-A swather, or windrower, is a farm implement that cuts hay or small grain crops and forms them into a windrow.
15- Combine Harvester-The combine harvester, is a machine that harvests grain crops. It combines into a single operation process that previously required three separate operations (reaping, threshing, and winnowing).

What are the answers to these questions?

Posted by admin

My professor assigned 100 questions for us to answer and study off of and I have had trouble with these following questions. I would greatly appreciate any input.

Desertification is often caused by
1) rising temperature.
2) irrigation.
3) logging.
4) melting of the polar ice caps.
5) overgrazing of livestock

Which of the following is not considered a harmful farming practice?
1) heavy irrigation
2) monoculture
3) excessive crop rotation
4) excessive fuel consumption
5) heavy use of fertilizers

The preferred energy source in the United States is
1) imported oil.
2) solar energy.
3) nuclear energy.
4) coal.
5) hydroelectric generators.

The process by which industrial wastes become more concentrated in the bodies
of organisms as they pass along a food chain is called
1) organismal-assisted enhancement.
2) bioaccumulation.
3) biological magnification.
4) waste bioaugmentation.
5) reverse biodegradation.

The majority of biological extinctions are due to
1) invasion by exotic species.
2) habitat loss.
3) overexploitation.
4) fossil fuel emissions.
5) pollution.

Which of the following is not a renewable resource?
A. fossil fuels
B. food crops
C. water
D. wild game
E. solar energy

Pollution is defined as
A. an alteration in land usage.
B. an undesirable alteration to the environment.
C. the impact of human activity on the environment.
D. the impact of animal and plant species on the environment.
E. the introduction of a new species into an environment.

Desertification and deforestation are similar in that both involve
A. overpopulation of an area by humans.
B. loss of plant and animal life in an area.
C. lack of rainfall in an area.
D. overgrowth of undesirable plants in an area.
E. loss of wetland habitats.

Most of the world’s fresh water supply is used for
A. drinking water by humans.
B. bathing by humans.
C. irrigating crops.
D. drinking water for livestock.
E. boating and recreation.

Which of the following is least responsible for soil erosion?
A. poor landscaping practices that expose the land to excess wind
B. overgrazing by livestock
C. use of drip irrigation systems
D. deforestation
E. wetland destruction

The increased efficiency of fishing has led to
A. loss of biodiversity in fish and other species.
B. decreased yields from fishing.
C. increased biodiversity of aquatic animals other than fish.
D. increased nutritional deficiencies in the human population.
E. decreased need for agriculture.

Hydropower and wind power are similar in that both are
A. nonrenewable energy sources.
B. renewable energy sources.
C. commonly used worldwide as power sources.
D. dependent in part on fossil fuels.
E. sources of environmental pollution.

Human society in its current form is unsustainable because
A. important natural resources are being consumed more quickly than
they can be replenished.
B. renewable energy sources are consuming land and resources more quickly than
they can be replenished.
C. recycling has lessened the need for the mining of some mineral resources.
D. fresh water is a renewable resource that can be preserved through conservation.
E. diverting agricultural yield for feeding livestock supplies protein to a community’s diet.

Desertification is often caused by
3) logging.

Which of the following is not considered a harmful farming practice?
3) excessive crop rotation

Did I get the wrong feed for my baby chicks?

Posted by admin

We asked for organic chick starter at the feed supply so they got a bag for us and without thinking we bought it. I’ve been feeding it to my chicks for three days. Then I looked at the bag, it says "organic poultry and livestock feed". Isn’t it supposed to be especially for chicks? Is thus the wrong feed? Should we go back and get some chick starter??

The chicks should be being fed Chick Crumb until a few weeks old. It is in manageable crumbs as the name suggests and contains the right nutrients for initial growth.
The chicks should then be phased onto Growers Pellets until the age of about 14 weeks, when they can be moved onto standard chicken food.
