Where do you get parts for old tractors?

I found an 1950 something allis chalmers wd45 tractor with a front end loader in my area for sale. I reallly want it but my concern is what if something goes wrong its not like it is a brigs and stratton where i can just flip through a parts catalogue and pick up the phone?

Well your in luck, theres a company that still makes reproduction parts for that old iron, we use them all the time at our New Holland dealership, somehow that stuff always finds it’s way to our door and Tisco almost always bails us out.

John Deere tractors are considerably more expensive than the other brands even though their hp or whatever might be lower. What makes them so expensive?

does it usually take for the job to be complete. How many roofers are usually on the job and is it normal for them to ask for money for supplies when insurance is paying for the roof and we just pay the deductable. thanks

There are two ways to handle this. If the insurance company provides you with a list of their preferred roofers and you use one of them you shouldn’t have to pay anything up front. If this is the case and the contractor is asking for money up front you need to contact your insurance company. If the insurance company has given you a check for the damages and you are hiring your own roofer you must have hired a company that is small enough it doesn’t have working capital and/or they want money up front to keep you from changing your mind. That doesn’t mean they’re not good, it just means they are small enough that they’re working from job to job.

That would depend on the insurance company. If you intend to do this, you should check your policy regarding who is covered as an operator.

Children frequently operate farm machinery, but in today’s culture…I’m afraid that public opinion would be against this. I still remember when my cousin, same age as me, was killed when he rolled the tractor over on himself. Of course people were prostrate with grief, but no one ever suggested that the parents were guilty of child endangerment. That was almost 50 years ago. These days…hmmm. One can only imagine.

Don’t imagine that I am opposed to this, as my son did farm work right along with the rest of us, and this included operating tractors, chainsaws, and other things that make certain people wail with alarm. He was also driving the farm truck by the time he was 10. The thing is, he wasn’t raised to be STUPID. And he is still alive and well.

Can I use a 250W heat light for bearded dragon?

At rural king they sale 10" heat lamps and lights for 1.99, but they’re 250W. I’m heating a 50 gallon tank (4ft long) and it’ll be at least 2ft away from basking. While this heat my tank to proper temperature without overheating?

I would go with the 125w. 250w will probably be way too much. But at that price, it doesn’t hurt to get one of each and just see which one gives better results. I use a 100w in a 55g. In the winter, I have to add a 40w to the cool side to get it to stay around 80, but otherwise, it is just right.

Before you give me the usual "you don’t know what you’re doing" lecture consider this:

1. I don’t need money to buy one. I’m going to capture it. There are tons of bears in my area and I’ll just nab a cub when mama bear isn’t looking. I’m very sneaky.

2. I have the space. My family owns a large ranch.

3. I have a food supply. There are tons of squirrels and groundhogs in my area. I can hunt them and feed them to my bear.

4. Bears usually like me. I’ve fed some of the ones around here by hand before without getting mauled or anything.

5. People say I’m very mature for my age.

Cell Phone Water Trough Sensor?

I have a water well on some property that supplies water to livestock. Has anyone heard of a sensor that I can use that would send a signal via cell phone to me if the water trough dries up?

I know of no such system, but I do not think that it would be too difficult for an engineer to design such a system. Contact an electrical consulting engineer in your area.

About farm tractors, how much drawbar horsepower do you need to pull a two bottom plow?

Lets just say it takes 16 hp. to pull a single bottom plow, does it take 32 hp. to pull a double?

If you’ve got the low gears and enough weight on the tractor, then 20hp would be enough.
