There is meant to be a huge plot twist (probably revolving around the cigarette incident in the work camp). What is it?
A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian is a novel by Marina Lewycka, first published in 2005 by Viking (Penguin Books).

I really cannot see the problem. I enjoyed the book very much and there are many plot twists. I would say the biggest one involves the "civilized person's" gadgets and similar. The one with the cigarette is more on the emotional side, maybe the fact that the author dicovers another side of her character? however, I am looking forward to reading the other answers here.

Sorry, Mimma, but I figured out all the plot twists and then promptly forgot about them. VERY over-rated book, in my opinion.
