Exhibition explores the history of Great South Road

It began life as a humble bullock track in 1843, linking Auckland to the Waikato. As the years progressed however, Great South Road became a vital supply route, transporting munitions for the controversial Waikato War and, later, livestock and produce.
It was finally paved in the 1930s, making it fit for cars and the subsequent waves of migrants who travelled its length.
In his exhibition The Great South Road, photographer Peter Quinn documents the route’s history and the lives of the people who live there.
Quinn will also give a talk and slide presentation about his 15 years’ experience with NZ Geographic at the exhibition opening this afternoon.
