Why is our government allowing thousands of acres of Cal. farm land going to drought because of a fish?
Posted by adminAren't people more important than a small fish? What about our food supply? Won't we be forced to import more food at higher prices?
Because these weasels hate America and will use any excuse to destroy it.They want to collapse our economy , then out of the ashes will rise their liberal utopia.

For the same reason they almost put the whole state of Oregon out of work over an owl in the early 90's.

Do you have a link ? People such as Republicans were against saving the Silver minnow here in the South West as Well . It turns out that the Silvery minnow eats mosquito larva . But I do think there needs to be a balance struck , because people are a part of this planet too – but that does not mean that the fish you are talking about are not important to our world either .

I am not exactly sure to what you are referring, but that is definitely what some of the psychos in California would do.

Just look at the answers you get and then you know why! When food prices go up and supply runs short then watch what happens.

Well as someone who grew up in California farm land I will say the fish are more important than folks in the cities having lush green lawns and swimming pools. Time to drastically reduce the amount of water going to the cities and use it for farming and environmental restoration.

That area was overrun with mafia corruption after the Bush Administration passed laws which ignore science and economics. Democrats are working on how to restore economic vitality to the region without all the criminal behavior that was the basis for their industry.

So the good people cannot produce there own food and be self sustainable and thus further depend ant on the government for resources.

You need to realize that the ecosystem is interdependent. Human agriculture is the newbie on the block. The Soviet Union caused an environmental disaster in the Aral Sea because of unrestrained damming for the purposes of agriculture. When you start messing around with the water supply by sucking water out of the rivers and lakes faster than it can be replaced, there are consequences all the way downstream.
The agriculture industry needs to find better ways of irrigating land, the present methods are wasteful, they use them because they're cheap. It's also the people in the cities who use all that water for their lawns and other useless crap.
And no, human beings are not more important than a small fish. That kind of attitude has put this planet on the verge of environmental catastrophe, and it needs to be stopped. Giving industry a free hand to use resources as they see fit has turned the land into a sewer, as well as made us poorer.
Besides, take a walk down the street, and count the number of badly overweight people. It's a national crisis in how people are overeating because factory farms have kept food prices artificially low. Those same farms are the main reason why there are new diseases like bird flu and swine flu. Large scale agriculture could be the death of us.

Trying to grow produce in a desert while constantly adding millions in population is not sustainable.
It's not just about a small fish. There are many fish populations at risk. You know, fish, as in….. "OUR FOOD SUPPLY?"
Drought is drought. When that happens, you don't grow the crops. You don't ruin the ecosystems for everywhere else to artificially and temporarily save one area from a fate that was bound to happen.
