Winching a Lawn Tractor Into the Cart
Posted by admin
In this video Dave and I are loading a junky tractor into the flatbed cart. We added a floor and a portable 2000lb electric winch onto the big cart we bought from Tractor Supply Co for the purpose of hauling lawn tractors. This Sears Companion had a locked transaxle and stripped steering gear, so it would have been hard to move otherwise. This setup has been a real time (and back) saver, and I don’t know how we did without it. I sped up the video in one part becaue the winch takes about 2.5 …

600hrs. is a lot …
600hrs. is a lot for a modern Briggs, I’ll tell ya that much. Most will never make it that far. So if it’s getting spark the next thing I would check out is the carburetor, make sure you’re getting fuel. I had a motor once that had bad fuel flow due to a clog, it would run fine until it couldn’t suck anymore air through the gas tank, then it would die.

Carb problem. It …
Carb problem. It did that whenever it was in a low idle. You should have seen the crud in the carb when we rebuilt it. (that engine is on our Wheel Horse ZTR now)

That motor was …
That motor was really only on there temporarily, it’s got a 26hp V-twin now. But yeah, the carb was soooo finickey on that thing. At full throttle it was fine, but you had to fiddle with the choke like a mad man to get it to idle right at low RPMs. It needed a carb rebuild like nobody’s business!
April 5th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
hey, your tractor …
hey, your tractor sounds like it is idling badly. do you know what the problem is? mine does the same thing! also, do you have to adjust the choke on it to get it to idle good? i think i am gonna see if there is a carb that needs adjusted or something.

cool thanks! my …
cool thanks! my neighbor is a retired beef farmer and showed me how to back up a vintage john deere wagon with the steerable front axle. and even he said its a to do wheather or not its your first time! i just thought it would be great for hauling fire wood! its low and easy to load and all the weight is over its wheels not the tractors drawbar. i would take off the sides and put higher wood bolsters to hold logs on to it!

We’ve had it since …
We’ve had it since last March or so, it’s been great. The bottom is metal mesh, so I put a piece of plywood down to give the floor some more rigidity, and that’s worked out well. The only drawbacks in design are 1) It’s a to back up a cart with a steerable front axle, and 2) You’ll need to drill the hitch pin hole out so something besides a tiny bolt will fit in it. Other than that it’s held up really well.

The 20.5 HP opposed twin on my Uncles LT1000 had that problem once. If the throttle was below half way up it would rev like that, but it would be smooth above half throttle.
